Overview

Novartis is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. They needed a high-energy opener for an upcoming global operations conference. These internal events often struggled to hold attention, particularly in a company this large, where making individual teams feel appreciated is no small task. The goal was to create a piece that was engaging right from the off, to breathe some life into what was usually a fairly drab affair.

The main challenge was that we had 3 days to turn it around and no client assets to make our lives any easier. 

My Role

The agency team had previously created kinetic typographical pieces for this client so they were keen to stick with this style as it had gone down well in the past.

I took visual cues from Apple’s 'Don’t Blink' campaign, (which is one of my favourites), but slowed things down just enough to balance pace with read-time. By combining animated text and constant motion with carefully chosen stock imagery, the result was a piece that felt fluid, modern, and a great way to start the event.

This one was really fun to work on. I’ve always enjoyed the 'cool-factor' that kinetic typography delivers and seeing it all come together was very satisfying. There’s also something about delivering to a tight deadline that I somehow enjoy, agency life has left its mark on me that’s for sure!

Results

While it’s difficult to quantify what success looks like for an internal video without metrics, all I can say is that the client was really happy with the film, especially given the tight turnaround. Apparently everyone in the room loved the opening film and it gave the conference a boost right from the off.
